Consumers: Educate Yourself in Honor of National Consumer Protection Week
Source: Informa Research Services
(03/12/2010) Today concludes National Consumer Protection Week. However, consumer protection should not be a one-week affair. Instead, and in consumers’ best interest, it should be the norm. Informa Research Services suggests consumers educate themselves on a regular basis and use online resources to protect themselves and their money.
The best way to protect yourself is self-education, and with access to the Internet, it can be much easier than it has been in the past. There are volumes of information online, and yes, sometimes it can be difficult to tell what is accurate information and what is not. Typically, paying close attention to the information source is one key way to identify which information is correct.
Another easy way to stay informed is to look at national averages. Various websites, such as ERATE.com, publish national averages that are updated regularly. National averages can give you a quick reference for what constitutes a high or low rate given the market conditions. Keep in mind that these figures are averages, which means there are frequently rates available that may be much higher or much lower.
In the same vein as checking national averages, checking the rates currently being offered on the product of your choice is a great way to keep a finger on the pulse of the market. Like most things, shopping around beforehand is the best way to ensure you get a good deal!
