Homebuyer Tax Credits Available on Purchases Through April Source: Informa Research Services (02-05-2010) If you’re in the market for a new home and didn’t take advantage of the 2009 homebuyer tax credit, you still have a chance in 2010, even if you’re an existing homeowner! In December, President Obama signed a bill that extended the current first-time home buyer tax credit through April, and expanded it to include qualified non-first-time homebuyers. The original tax credit, up to $8,000, remains in effect until April 30, 2010, and now includes an increased income cap (to be eligible for the full credit). Single tax filers who earn up to $125,000 and joint filers who earn up to $225,000 are now eligible for the full credit. Additionally, homeowners who have owned their current residence for five of the last eight years are eligible for a credit up to $6,500 when a contract is in effect through April 30, 2010, and closes before June 30, 2010. With tax incentives in place and rates still desirably low, this may be an ideal time to buy a home if you are in the market. According to Informa Research Services weekly mortgage rate review, the national average 30-year fixed mortgage rate is still at a low 5.180%. By searching for mortgage rates online, consumers can quickly compare the available rates offered by lenders in their area and find rates that may be much lower than those offered elsewhere. For example, AimLoan regularly offers regularly offers a 30-year fixed mortgage with an APR much lower than the national average APR.
